Way back Wednesday: This Woman in Business is Cleaning UP!

WE Mag interview w/ Swipes CFO--This Woman in Business is Cleaning UP!

  • Tell us about your business?
  • Swipes inc is the minority/women owned company that produces Swipes Lovin Wipes ®, are an all natural, biodegradable, compostable, dispersible, and flushable personal hygiene wipes that are, free of alcohol, chlorine, and dyes, made of 98% renewable resources and are intended for adults to freshen up before and after intimate moments. Because it is enhanced with only aloe and vitamin E and are also hypo-allergenic, they are safe and soft for even the most sensitive places.
  • Please tell us what being a business owner means to you and why you became an entrepreneur in the first place?
  • Before I started Swipes Inc, with my partner, Vera, I had the intention of starting medical school. Although, I was excited about continuing my education, I felt as though there was something more that I wanted to do. Now that Swipes Inc is running on all cylinders, I have the freedom to work with people I want, get involved in events and charities I care about, and take pride in knowing that I am offering an eco friendly product that is priced reasonably and therefore accessible to more people.
  • What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why?
  • My inspiration was my mother, who after working 17 years for someone else, decided to open her own Physical Therapy office, she has never been happier because she finally gets to treat patients with personal care and attention. The greatest influence was my sister, she is an environmentalist and guided me in all aspects Green.
  • What would you say is your greatest professional accomplishment to date?
  • From a business stand point it has definitely been: overcoming the hurdles placed in front of us by large companies, but slowly and surely they have seen the value and opened their doors.
  • What’s the best advice you have received in business that you wish to pass on to our readers?
  • Get advice from as many different channels, don’t accept the word of one person as the final answer. Everyone you meet has words of wisdom, but ultimately your gut instinct will make the best decision.
  • What has been the most effective marketing initiatives or programs you have used to promote your business?
  • Apart from the social media, the most effective initiatives we have taken have been to get involved in local and non-profit organizations. By providing product samples to people at these types of events, we get the product directly in the hands of the consumer and we get to support a cause. Great for branding and all around feel good experience.
  • What one thing have you learned as a small business owner that has served you well over the years?
  • Ask questions. No matter how good you are at your business, there is no possible way you can be the expert in all aspects of your business. Nobody is going to know or love your business more than you. But don’t be afraid to know your limitations, people are always willing to help, especially in their area of expertise. It gives them a chance to shine, helps your business, and facilitates in better decision making
  • Are there any resources or tools you’d like to share with other small business owners that have helped you run your business?
  • I believe this depends on the area of your business. If, for example you are an eco company, get involved in eco groups, communities, events, etc. If you are a baby product, get involved with mommies. And ask them what they want. If you have a great idea, but don’t know how to get it out there, nobody will know you exist.
  • Do you have any new projects coming up (or have you just completed a big project ~ reached a milestone, etc.)?
  • We just celebrated out official Grand Opening Party, as members of certain communities, we reached many people and by hosting the event at our location, giving away samples, we made sales, new customers, and were even interviewed by the local media. In addition, after months of chasing, piles of paperwork, and endless emails we have just been welcomed into a large distribution company. Very exciting.
  • What do you do for fun/relaxation?
  • Living in Florida, I definitely take advantage of the things around me. I love to go for a run outside with my Jack Russell, “Ocean.” To cool off in the heat I am an avid scuba diver, and I love to go fishing and cook what I catch. To relax (and so much more) I enjoy Hot Vinyasa Yoga.
  • What is Number One Business Goal you plan to accomplish over the next year?
  • To make Swipes a household name.
  • You want to write a book on: Cooking what you catch-recipes for the kitchen and for life, learning how to take advantage of your resources, whether it be food ingredients or life experiences
  • Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
  • I just published a Children’s book, but it was just for fun.
  • It is called the Adventures of the Chinchilla and the Gorilla:
  • What’s the best way for our readers to connect with you?

Is Technology ruining your Relationship?

Avoid Gadget Overload

  • Posted on Jul 21, 2011 12:08 PM by Jessica Padykula
Couple-computer-smartphone-in-bed

Technology is part of life. We all use laptops and smartphones as if they were attached to our bodies, but how is this addiction to technology affecting our love lives? Well, according to TiVo's recent Turn on the Love survey, television and technology can actually be used to improve relationships – with some ground rules, of course. We're here to share some tips on finding a balance between tech time and love time.

Peace, Lovin, Swipes!

The difference between Biodegradable and Compostable

Recycle_symbol

Now-a-days…we live in, what I call, “The Green Age.” More and more people are jumping on the “green” wagon and are trying to do what they can to reduce their carbon footprint. These new green-newbie’s are transitioning and unless you’re a “green-a-holic”, you may not be familiar with a lot of the “green”-words. Here at Swipes Lovin Wipes, we stand by our claims, two terms of which cause a little confusion at times! So today we’re going to break down the difference between—Biodegradable and Compostable.

Biodegradable

Let’s start off with a pretty common word…Biodegradable. Some of us learned that word in High School…well at least that’s the first time I remember hearing it. My definition of “biodegradable” was anything that is natural enough to easily degrade and become one with the earth again (without causing any issues). I’m sure I’m close but let’s look at the actual definition. According to dictionary.com, Biodegradable means:

Capable of being decomposed by biological agents, especially bacteria.

Many items are biodegradable but that doesn’t make it good for the environment. Biodegradation can happen over a period of days or hundreds of years—and that makes the difference between what is “good” or “bad” for the environment.  The more natural the item is the faster it will biodegrade. Essentially biodegradable products should break down into water, carbon dioxide, and biomass in a reasonable amount of time. For example an apple core will never biodegrade in a landfill but take 2 weeks in a backyard compost, a matter of days in a industrial composter, and 8 weeks in a ocean. Regular plastic cups will never biodegrade in a landfill, there’s an unknown amount of time on how long it would take in backyard compost or in an industrial composter. But we do know, plastic is very hard to breakdown, so much so, that once it’s in the ocean it goes through photodegradation (breaking down plastic into smaller pieces) and turns into a trash island for about 450 years! Now that’s a big difference!

 Compostable

Compostable products are just like biodegradable products but better! When broken down, rich nutrients are released into the soil called humus, making Compostable products some of the best for the environment. The usual breakdown time for a compostable product is one to four months. These products should be able to become usable compost in a timely manner through an appropriate composting program or facility, or in a home compost pile or device. This compost can then be used for gardening and planting! No harsh chemicals or pesticides to worry about!

Swipes Lovin Wipes

Swipes is proud to be both biodegradable and Compostable! Whether you flush our truly flushable wipes down the toilet or compost us in some dirt...will degrade naturally becoming one with the planet!

Until next time...Peace, Lovin, Swipes!

Teagan Shepard gives Swipes Lovin Wipes an honest Review

I recently received a package of Swipes Lovin' Wipes from Swipes in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to give it a positive review.

I found Swipes on Facebook. I knew they were wipes, but not much more than that did I know; I hadn't tried them. I asked them if I could review a pack, and they were more than happy to send me a pack to check out.

Swipes are marketed as wipes to use before and after intimate encounters, but I found that they are more than that. I actually liked how well they cleaned Kiddo's hiney after a stinky, smeary diaper. It only took one wipe, and afterwards his hiney smelled like cucumber, not alcohol and baby powder.

  • have morals or values
  • or just a human body...

Curious minds like to know! Please tell me!!!!

Freaky Friday: To fake it or Not to fake it...that is the question?

Meg_ryan

Many women have faked an orgasm at some point during their sexual history. But there could be many reasons for faking one...she may not be into it, there could be something on the brain (yes men, I'm sorry to tell you but sometimes even during sex other things cross our mind), or she just can't reach that climax no matter how good it feels.

So the question is: Is it ok to fake it? I mean what harm does it really do? It makes the guy feel good and accomplished. We, women, don't want you to feel bad and maybe we don't want to talk about why we couldn't reach that pivotal point. I mean, it is the nice courteous thing to do, right? But is that, in some weird twisted way...selfish? Should we just let you know that we weren't completely safisfied?

I guess everyone's opinion on it is different. Some guys can probably care less but other's I'm sure want to know why, so they can try and fix the problem...if the problem is indeed them. But do guys really want to know the truth? Would it be as equally enjoyable for them if they knew their partner didn't experience an orgasm?  Most guys are turned on by how much their partner is turned on, so in some cases it could bring the momentum down and definitely could cause some insecurity. And nobody likes an insecure partner! So maybe faking is a good thing for morale purposes!

Sometimes faking could lead to sincerity. Moaning and groaning can help you get in the mood. It's a mental thing. And what started off as fake could actually become real. Just a thought.

Men if you're looking for some tips, I read an article on Askmen.com entitled "4 Tricks To make Her Orgasm" and I can't, 100% without a doubt, say they all will work but hey it's worth a try! And whatever you do make sure Swipes Lovin Wipes are always handy!

To all these questions that I posed, I'm really interested in hearing your feeling and thoughts?

So I'll ask one more time...To fake it or Not to fake it?

Kiss me!

Old_kiss

Yes it's ok..I'll allow it today because It's International Kissing Day! A trend started in the UK and is now known around the world. Some refer to it as National Kissing Day or just Kissing Day.

But nontheless, what's better than a kiss? So warm and tender. And today you have an excuse to share your love with the world...or select few!

Peace, Lovin, Swipes!

We're bringing "Sexy Back"....to our Blogs!

Sex

Sorry for the cliche but here at the Swipes Lovin Wipes Blog, our goal is to provide you both Sexy and Green tips...and I think we've been giving more green than sexy...so let's talk about Sex shall we? Well here, we prefer to call it "Lovin"!

What do you call it?

Keepin' it Sexy and Green for the 4th of July!

Flag-fireworks2

It's 4th of July ( Can you believe it? The time is flying this year!) weekend which means there is a lot of traveling, pic-nicing, BBQ-ing and just plain ol' gathering. But remember you're impact on the environment this weekend. Keep it Sexy and Green---maybe stay indoor's with the lights off all weekend...you'll save energy and create your own fireworks! Just remember your Swipes Lovin Wipes!

But if staying inside with the lights off isn't an option, prepare your weekend the greenest way possible. A few weeks ago we gave you tips to a greener summer, check that out and get great BBQing and outdoor suggestions!

Fireworks aren't exactly the most environmentally friendly activity, so chose smart. If you're choosing to set off your own fireworks this year chose ones that are rich in nitrogen, they're a little more expensive but emit less smoke into the air. But an even better idea is to go see a local firework show! They're bigger, better, safer and made for many to share in the the 4th of July tradition!

Whatever you do this weekend stay safe and remember to use your Swipes!

Happy 4th!

Why use gas...when we have air!

So we all know that gas prices are getting out of control and probably will only get worst. We want to learn to do better by our environment, right?  But some of us make long commutes and can't see changing over to an only bike lifestyle, so what are we to do?

Well, we need to hop on the Indian bandwagon...or shall I say air-wagon? India is set to release a new car that runs off of---AIR! Yes, air. India's largest auto maker, Tata Motors, have contured up a air-powered car! It may not be the most aesthetically pleasing car but for $2 to "refuel" every 300km (about 186 miles)...I"ll roll in it!  (Oh and here's another cool new car---the Air-pod.I want one!!!)

Air_powered_tata_car

Check out their press-release:

Tata Motors is ready to introduce Air Car - Will it be the next big thing? Tata Motors is taking giant strides and making history for itself. First the Land Rover/Jaguar deal, then the world's cheapest car, and now it is also set to introdhe car that runs on compressed air.

With spiralling fuel prices it is about time we heard some breakthrough!

India's largest automaker, Tata Motors, is set to start producing the world's first commercial air-powered vehicle.

The Air Car, developed by ex-Formula One engineer Guy NAgre for Luxembourg-based MDI, uses compressed air, as opposed to the gas-and-oxygen explosions of internal-combustion models, to push its engine's pistons. Some 6000 zero-emissions Air Cars are scheduled to hit Indian streets by August 2011.

The Air Car, called the "MiniCAT" could cost around Rs. 3,475,225 ($8,177.00 USD) in India and would have a range of around 300 km between refuels.

The cost of a refill would be about Rs. 85 ($2.00 USD)

The MiniCAT which is a simple, light urban car, with a tubular chassis that is glued, not welded, and a body of fiberglass powered by compressed air. Microcontrollers are used in every device in the car, so one tiny radio transmitter sends instructions to the lights, indicators, etc.

There are no keys - just an access card which can be read by the car from your pocket. According to the designers, it costs less than 50 rupees per 100 Km (about a tenth that of a petrol car). Its mileage is about double that of the most advanced electric car (200 to 300 km or 10 hours of driving), a factor which makes a perfect choice in cities where 80% of motorists drive at less than 60 Km. The car has a top speed of 105 Kmph (about 65mph).

Refilling the car will, once the market develops, take place at adapted petrol stations to administer compressed air. In two or three minutes, and at a cost of approximately 100 rupees, the car will be ready to go another 200-300 kilometers.

As a viable alternative, the car carries a small compressor which can be connected to the mains (220V or 380V) and refill the tank in 3-4 hours. Due to the absence of combustion and, consequently, of residues, changing the oil (1 litre of vegetable oil) is necessary only every 50,000 Km).

The temperature of the clean air expelled by the exhaust pipe is between 0-15 degrees below zero, which makes it suitable for use by the internal air conditioning system with no need for gases or loss of power.

We Swipe'n the nation and saving Owls! We're almost like superheroes! ;-)

Last night the Swipes Lovin- Team came across this little hooter in the streets! The little baby owl was hurt and couldn't fly. Tiny little thing, only about 4 or 5 inches Tall! But no need to worry, the baby owl was safely returned to animal rescue this morning.

Now that's what we call Peace, Lovin, and Swipe'n for good :)
