President Obama took his debt team out for burgers at Good Stuff Eatery on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, giving new meaning to the "Popeye" character Wimpy's catchphrase "I'd gladly pay you Tuesday, for a hamburger today."

The White House said the outing, at which the president consumed a meal of about 1,700 calories, was a reward for the debt team's "nonstop" work over the last few months as they worked out a deal with Capitol Hill to extend the government's borrowing limit.

That's actually quite ironic for our Marxist community organizer-in-chief to be rewarding his minions based on merit while stripping any such notion from the private sector, no? “Michelle eats here all the time, but I don’t get out,” Mr. Obama said of his wife, who’s had a burger named after her on the Good Stuff menu.

The lunch group included Mr. Obama’s budget director, Jack Lew; Vice President Joe Biden‘s chief of staff, Bruce Reed; the director of the National Economic Council, Gene Sperling; the White House’s top laison to Congress, Rob Nabors; and deputy White House Chief of Staff Nancy Ann DeParle. Mr. Obama sat at the table with a burger, fries and a salad in front of him, according to a pool report. The president was apparently in a good mood, sharing his spread with fellow diners, including 11-year-old Andrew Parker, who said Mr. Obama told him to choose any milkshake he wanted from his table.

...if Democrats were serious about dealing with the deficit, they could have done things in 2009 when they had complete control of Washington. If they really believed the Bush wars and tax cuts were the problem, they could have ended the wars and raised taxes. They didn't. They could have refrained from passing $862 billion in pork barrel spending disguised as "economic stimulus." But they spent it anyway. They could have passed a responsible budget. Instead, they neglected to propose any budget.

What that proves is that they really don't believe their own arguments about wars and tax cuts - and that they want to spend much more than they want to deal with the mounting debt problem.

Republicans and independents are driving this disapproval. Democrats approve of the agreement, 63 percent to 32 percent. But only 35 percent of Republicans and independents approve of the agreement. More than three-in-five independents disapprove.

Specific elements of the agreement are more popular than the agreement overall, however, suggesting the tumultuous and often times messy process had a negative impact on Americans and their perception of Washington. One measure of that: the percentage of Americans who approve of the way Congress is handling its job has shrunk to an abysmal 14 percent, easily the lowest measure in five years of CNN polling.

Pro-lifers are horrified at the announcement Monday that the Obama administration has approved a recommendation from the Institute of Medicine (IOM) to guarantee full health insurance coverage for birth control, including the so-called “morning-after” pill, under the Affordable Care Act.

The new guidelines, which the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) labeled “historic,” will require new health insurance plans to include women’s preventive services including FDA approved contraceptives, breast feeding support, and well-women visits — all without charging a co-payment, co-insurance or a deductible — beginning August 1, 2012.

“The Affordable Care Act helps stop health problems before they start,” said HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in a statement.

  signed an Executive Order opening up taxpayer funding for destroying embryos for research, even though the effort is moot (more here)
• directed the Department of HHS to overturn regulations that protect medical professionals from being forced to perform or refer for abortion (more here)
• second act in office was to authorize US dollars to fund abortions oversees (more here)
• voted against the Born Alive Infant Protection Act (more here and here), thereby outright condoning infanticide (this was before he was elected President, but something that no one should forget). Apparently, not just once but 4 times!
• signed an Executive Order authorizing taxpayer funding for the destruction of human embryos for research and overturned a prior administration EO pressing for forms of stem cell research that wouldn't require embryo destruction. Even though destroying embryos is likely already moot at this point
  
• announced $50 million for the UNFPA, the UN population agency that has been criticized for promoting abortion and working closely with Chinese population control officials who use forced abortions and involuntary sterilizations.
• defunded all abstinence-only education, instead going with contraceptive-only education that is proven not to decrease pregnancy or abortion
• Signed a new budget calling for taxpayer-funded abortions in Washington D.C. 
• Replaced controversial ‘conscience’ regulation for health-care workers allowing medical personnel to not be involved in procedures like abortion that they found morally objectionable.

The multiple pro-infanticide votes are the most egregious of the above egregious acts, and he did so without any pity for those babies born alive only to be left in soiled linen closets to die. Our community organizer-in-chief with a heart "bigger than any heart in the world" took this action on infanticide (a fact that I seemingly have to point out bi-monthly):

In 2002, as an Illinois legislator, Obama voted against the Induced Infant Liability Act, which would have protected babies that survived late-term abortions.

Obama voted against this bill in the Illinois senate and killed it in committee. Twice, the Induced Infant Liability Act came up in the Judiciary Committee on which he served. At its first reading he voted “present.” At the second he voted “no.”

The bill was then referred to the senate’s Health and Human Services Committee, which Obama chaired after the Illinois Senate went Democratic in 2003. As chairman, he never called the bill up for a vote.

That last part was a defacto "no" vote. More than the above is the personal account of nurse Jill Stanek who witnessed surviving babies being left to die in soiled linens (keep in mind that Obama is now "shocked and saddened" by gay suicides):

Jill Stanek, a registered delivery-ward nurse who was the prime mover behind the legislation after she witnessed aborted babies’ being born alive and left to die, testified twice before Obama in support of the Induced Infant Liability Act bills. She also testified before the U.S. Congress in support of the Born Alive Infant Protection Act.

Stanek told me her testimony “did not faze” Obama.

In the second hearing, Stanek said, “I brought pictures in and presented them to the committee of very premature babies from my neonatal resuscitation book from the American Pediatric Association, trying to show them unwanted babies were being cast aside. Babies the same age were being treated if they were wanted!”

“And those pictures didn’t faze him [Obama] at all,” she said.

Senate Republicans want a 60-vote threshold for a debt-limit bill to pass the chamber, but it's actually Democrats who are enforcing the filibuster on their own legislation, insisting on delaying a vote until 1 a.m. Sunday morning.

Republicans offered to let the vote happen Friday night, just minutes after the chamber voted to halt a House Republican bill. All sides expect Democrats' bill will fail too, and the GOP said senators might as well kill both at the same time so that negotiations could move on to a compromise.

"We would be happy to have that vote tonight," Sen. Mitch McConnell, Republicans' leader, offered.

But Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid objected, even though the vote would occur on his own bill. He instead said the chamber would have to run out the full procedural clock, which means a vote in the early hours Sunday morning.

A Texas lawmaker is calling for a Congressional investigation of the Houston National Cemetery after he went undercover and determined that cemetery officials are still preventing Christian prayers at the funerals of military veterans.

“The Obama administration continues to try to prevent the word ‘God’ from being used at the funerals of our heroes,” said. Rep. John Culberson (R-TX). “It’s unacceptable and I’m going to put a stop to it as fast as humanly possible.”

Culberson told Fox News Radio he attended a burial service at the cemetery under cover on July 8 where he said volunteer members of the honor guard from the Veterans of Foreign Wars were prohibited from using any references to God.

“The Obama administration had told the nation and me they were not interfering with the prayer said over the graves of veterans,” he said. “And I went undercover to personally verify that claim.”

...The cemetery is already the focus of a lawsuit filed on behalf of the VFW, an American Legion post and Houston’s National Memorial Ladies. They claim the V.A. banned members of the organizations from using the words “God” or “Jesus” at burial services. They also allege they were banned from reciting prayers or using religious language during services unless families approved the text in advance.

...“It makes my skin crawl that liberals are attempting to drive prayer out of a funeral ceremony for our heroes,” Culberson said. “We’re going to fix this so that no Obama liberal bureaucrat will interfere with the funeral of a hero.”

By his actions, Obama is a false prophet:

The same guy that is purging God from America 'by design', leaves "By their Creator" Out of the Declaration of Independence, that Snubs ‘In God We Trust’ as the US Motto, that made sure to thank other people in his Thanksgiving proclamation in 2009, but not Almighty God, and dropped "Year of Our Lord" from another proclamation, the same one that by executive order disallowed faith-based organizations to conduct worship services while providing social programs funded with federal money, and the same guy that defended infanticide (not abortion but the murder of crying born babies left to die in soiled linen closets) as an Illinois Senator not once but 4 times claims once again to commune with God: Obama: ‘I Do A Lot Of Praying’

And he recently invoked the Bible to push for amnesty for illegal aliens:

"Immigration reform is a moral imperative, and so it's worth seeking greater understanding from our faith. As it is written in the Book of Deuteronomy [10:19], 'Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.' To me, that verse is a call to show empathy to our brothers and our sisters; to try and recognize ourselves in one another."And that has what to do with rewarding those that broke our laws? Since he mentioned empathy, he seems to have less than zero for unborn children, or even those that were born and left to die alone in soiled linen closets in Chicago. Obama the self-proclaimed student of history doesn't know his history (a usual). Fact of the matter is that the Great Depression was prolonged because of the out of control spending. All this debt that we are assuming will simply not help. What is being done right now is what led to Japan's "lost decade." It also deepened and lengthened the Great Depression. Looking back to 1939, Roosevelt's own Treasury secretary, Henry Morgenthau, had realized that the New Deal economic policies had failed. Said Morgenthau,

"We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we have ever spent before and it does not work. . . . After eight years of this Administration we have just as much unemployment as when we started. . . . And an enormous debt to boot!"

That's a quote that should be in everyone's mind right now. It's not. We haven't learned from history and are therefore doomed to repeat it.And by 'we' I mean Obama specifically and the Democratic Party in general. Which brings me to this: Obama: Stimulus Pulled Us From ‘Great Depression’

The petulant manchild Obama complains once again that he's not getting his way:

Yet, he has yet to offer a plan. How do you compromise with a guy that has no plan and simply slams yours? Boehner: Where Is Obama's Plan?

"Mr. Speaker, there is a huge gulf between Washington, DC and the American people. They are dealing with tough times. They're struggling to pay their bills. And they look to Washington, they see politicians who can't stop spending money -- their money.

"Listen, we're broke. We need to stop the out-of-control spending spree that's going on in Washington, DC.

"The House has acted. We passed a bill that raised the debt limit, cuts spending, puts in place real reforms in place, and requires Congress send to the states a Balanced Budget Amendment. It's called 'cut, cap, and balance.'

"We've done our job. The Democrats who run Washington have done nothing. They can't stop spending the American people's money. They won't and they refuse.

"The Senate Majority Leader says they still won't offer a plan to cut spending. Or a plan to raise the debt limit. Frankly, that's irresponsible.

"Mr. Speaker, where is their plan?

"President Obama talks about being 'the adult in the room.' But where is his plan to cut spending and raise the debt limit?

"We're in the fourth quarter -- and we're fighting for jobs, we're fighting for the future, we're fighting for the American people."

As usual, Obama is leading from behind.

On the heels of this: Obama Press Conference on Debt Ceiling Negotiation Break-Down. "In a hastily called (and sparsely attended) press conference, President Barack Obama addresses the latest details revolving around the break-down in negotiations with the House Republicans over the debt-ceiling increase."

Rubio responded by speaking truth to power:

"I have watched the President give press conferences, I have watched the President give speeches, but I have yet to see a plan from the President. And with all due respect to my colleagues in the other party here in the Senate, I haven't seen a plan from them either. They are the majority party. They control this chamber. They control the Senate. And I haven't seen a plan from them.

"A moment ago we heard this talk about -- well we have to compromise. Well it's really hard to compromise when the other side doesn't have a plan. What do you compromise on? Where is your plan? You can't compromise if only one person is offering plans. There is only one plan that has been voted on by any House to deal with this issue, and it's the one we're on right now, Cut, Cap and Balance. I would submit that if you don't like Cut, Cap and Balance, if you don't think we need to cut spending, cap spending and balance our budget, then show us your alternative.

"Or maybe you do believe we need to cut, cap and balance, but you don't like the way this bill cuts spending, caps spending and balances spending. Fine. Offer your version of Cut, Cap and Balance. Let's proceed to this bill. Let's get on this bill that the House has passed and if you don't like it, change it. You've got the votes here to do it. If you've got a better, bring this bill up and amend it. Put your ideas on it.

"But how could you ask for compromise? How could you ask the House-- how could you scold Republicans in the House for refusing to compromise if you don't have a plan of your own? How can you compromise if you don't have any ideas of your own? It's not a fair thing to say. And so I would urge the leadership of this chamber and the President of the United States to offer their ideas on paper. Put your ideas on paper and offer them so we can begin to work on this concept of compromise that you've offered. Because you can't compromise and you can't negotiate with people that will not offer a plan.

"Let's get -- why don't you vote to proceed to cut, cap and balance? Proceed to this bill so we could have a debate on this bill and so you could offer your ideas on this bill. This is the perfect opportunity to do it. Let's stop negotiating in the media and through press conferences and start doing it here on this floor, which is what people sent us here to do."
