Google Accused of (But Denies) Giving Obama Special Ad Access

Google blames inaccurate "puffery" from sales rep for causing confusion

A bit of political controversy has erupted around Google and an Obama ad that recently ran. Long story short: The National Republican Senatorial Committee has suspicions that Google gave the Obama campaign a special deal on a new type of ad (Cost-per-lead), which the company is currently testing. Google denies this notion, and that the ad in question was even a Google ad.

Do you believe Google? Let us know in the comments.

Politico ran an interesting article about unconfirmed and denied suspicions that Google had given President Obama a special deal on an as-of-yet released advertising product. The publication reports that a staffer at the National Republican Senatorial Committee saw "what appeared to be an Obama ad built on this technology" at the site RealClearPolitics last month, and then emailed Google asking about running the same kind of ad for Republicans.

The Google saleswoman reportedly replied, "This is a pre-alpha product that is being released to a select few clients. I'd be happy to get you into the beta if you're interested." Politico then quotes the NRSC communications director as saying that this "raises some red flags that the Obama campaign appears to have been given special access to a new online advertising product."

The article quotes Google spokesman Jake Parrilo as saying that the email contained inaccurate "puffery" by the sales rep, and that the ad that appeared on RealClearPolitics wasn't even a Google ad. Google has chalked the whole thing up as a "mistake" by the rep.

Fox News says: "Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt told FoxNews.com that the Obama campaign did not purchase any of the "cost-per-lead' ads through Google. Google's press office also denied that the president's reelection effort got any early deal, considering the "cost-per-lead" program has not even been rolled out yet."

Parrilo is also quoted as saying, "This is an experiment and while we generally do not comment on those experiments we can tell you that we have not sold a single CPL [cost-per-lead] ad unit to any political candidates or committees."

So, by Google's account, the ad the NRSC is talking about wasn't even their ad, and the kind of ad they're talking about has not been sold to any political candidates. As you might imagine, there are plenty of people chiming in in the comments of Politico's report. Here are a few:

"Google is all about control and knowing every inch of your life and so is the Obama administration. They make a perfect fit IF that's what you want your life to be."

"Notice the key words in their denials. They claim Obama hasn't paid for the service and Obama claims he hasn't paid them for a service. It was most likely given to him for free. So technically they're telling the truth."

"If this turns out to be true...a deal between Obama and Google, I will immediately eject Google from my computers."

"I Bing...I don't use Chrome."

Google's history with the Obama administration draws plenty of scrutiny from onlookers. Former CEO and current executive chairman Eric Schmidt is a well known Obama supporter, and was named to Obama's Science and Technology advisory council. In late 2008 alone, it was reported that six Google execs had donated $25,000 a piece to fund Obama's swearing-in party. That includes Dick Costolo, who is now CEO of Twitter, by the way.

NRSC spokesman Brian Walsh told FoxNews.com that Google has reached out to the committee. Walsh reportedly told the site in an email, "They claim this was a misunderstanding. We are currently examining that but certainly the appearance raises a red flag when you consider that Google executives have contributed almost a million dollars to President Obama's political campaigns."
.
In a 2008 post on Google's Public Policy Blog addressing the company's political advertising policies, Peter Greenberger wrote, "We permit political advertisements regardless of the political views they represent, and apply our policies equally. Just as the Net itself provides space for a thousand political opinions to bloom, Google is committed to being a neutral platform for people to advertise their political messages."

An interesting side story here is that Google has separate ad teams that run Republican and Democratic campaigns. These teams, Politico says it was told by Parrillo, are unaware of the other side's projects or deals. Google spokesperson Rob Shilkin also told Search Engine Land, "As our clients know, when we experiment with new products like this, our sales teams always has, and always will, offer the exact same opportunity to both sides of politics, at the same time. Our Democratic and Republican sales teams are strictly separated from each other and are charged with offering the absolutely best online ad solution for their respective clients."

Is this being blown out of proportion, or do you think there are legitimate "red flags" being raised? Tell us what you think.

Bin Laden Head Shot Photo: GRAPHIC

Please only read further if you are OK with looking at graphic photos. This is the picture of Obama Bin Laden after he was shot. No need to look if graphic bloody photos bother you.

I debated with myself about posting this after watching the news and seeing that President Obama would not allow our government to release these photos. I for one absolutely agree that the USA should not officially release these pictures.

However, since I....... like many others, have part Evil Hamster in me, and Osama Bin Laden is a PERFECT example of a thorough murdering, hypocritical, violent, Evil Hamster, who has caused untold deaths in our world, I have decided to share the photos and name him Evil Hamster of the day.

Sorry guy, but you deserved it sooner. Don't mess with Freedom and don't kill in the name of God!

'Donald Trump' responds to Bin Laden's capture

Well not exactly Donald himself.  Jimmy Fallon gives a hysterical spoof of Donald Trump reacting to 'Celebrity Apprentice' being pre-empted by the POTUS, Barack Obama's address about the capture and death of Bin Laden.

Target: Bin Laden " How did The Obama Admin do it?"

As details continue to emerge regarding the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound, the situation becomes a bit easier to visualize.

The nail-biting, 40-minute secret operation that resulted in Osama bin Laden's death could have been a calamitous political and military failure; a bloodbath in Pakistan that could have left U.S. forces and scores of civilians dead or captured by America's most ferocious enemy.

Or, as it happened, it could unfold largely in textbook fashion – delivering a stunning success for the often maligned intelligence community, a political and national security coup for a struggling president and revenge for Americans still carrying vivid memories of Sept. 11.

By clandestinely sending a team of special operations forces into an enemy fortress in a suburban neighborhood of a sovereign country, President Barack Obama chose the path of greatest risk, but also greatest reward.

There were so many ways it could have gone wrong.  But it was an almost seamless operation.

As U.S. officials evaluated their options, Obama asked for a gut check from top members of his national security team.

The various plans, White House counterterror chief John Brennan said, were "debated across the board and the president wanted to make sure, at the end, that he had the views of all."
The level of risk stretched from moderate to massive.

"When you go into something like this, there are no guarantees," said Dick Couch, a Navy SEAL during the Vietnam War who later worked for the CIA. "There's the fog of war. Things go wrong that you don't really plan or intend."

Bin Laden might not have been there, the commandos could have run into stiff resistance or hidden explosives, or U.S. troops might have been detected by Pakistani forces who could have taken action against them, Couch said in a phone interview Tuesday. "They have to plan ahead and account for as many of these contingencies as possible," he added. "But you can't take all the risk out of it."

The benefits, however, were too rich to ignore. With a precision assault, there would be much greater certainty they would positively identify bin Laden – a linchpin for success. It also reduced the risk of mass civilian casualties and dramatically increased the opportunity to gather what officials call a treasure trove of documents and intelligence.

As he reviewed the options, Obama had history to consider. As some of his predecessors can attest, these are the missions that can define a presidency.

Associated Press writers Pauline Jelinek and Robert Burns contributed to this report.

Obama Photo LOL or Evil Hamster?

Laughter is great medicine, and humor can....no, WILL......make you live longer. In fact, it is probably the best way to look at life. However, sometimes the focus of the laughter can get hurt. It's a pardox, because there are some things you have to laugh at, even though you know it is wrong......in this case, it's wrong, AND no matter what your political party, or how you feel about Obama, he is The President of The United States.......

Therefore today's Evil Hamster is Marilyn Davenport.....

PS At the end of the article is my favorite picture ;-)

Orange County GOP official considers photo of President Obama as baby chimp 'amusing'

President Barack Obama looking at a computer screen

Failing to see any racism in a digitally altered photograph of President Obama and his family portrayed as chimps, Marilyn Davenport, an elected member of the Orange County GOP central committee, says that she will not resign after it was discovered that she emailed the image to several cohorts along with the message: "Now you know why — No birth certificate!"
Indeed, the OC Republican "simply found it amusing" and said it reflected the president's character.
Defiantly saying that the kerfuffle was "much ado about nothing", Davenport issued a statement (via email, naturally) that what she sent out was no different than what she received when President Bush was in office.
"I'm sorry if my email offended anyone, I simply found it amusing regarding the character of Obama and all the questions surrounding his origin of birth," Davenport wrote Saturday. "In no way did I even consider the fact he's half black when I sent out the email. In fact, the thought never entered my mind until one or two other people tried to make this about race. We all know a double standard applies regarding this president. I received plenty of emails about George Bush that I didn't particularly like, yet there was no 'cry' in the media about them."

OC GOP Chairman Scott Baugh, however, said the email was "despicable." He told the Associated Press that Davenport's email "drips with racism and I think she should step down from the committee."
When confronted by the OC Weekly, which first reported the story, she claimed it was "just an Internet joke" and then asked the alternative newspaper, "You're not going to make a big deal about this are you?"
Baugh, however, did try to make a big deal about it because he does not want others to think that Davenport represents the views of other OC Republicans. However, upon investigation, he discovered that bylaws prevent an ouster of Davenport, an elected official, and the best he can do is organize a censure.
Davenport, of Fullerton, says she has friends who are black and thus she is not what some claim she is. "Oh, come on! Everybody who knows me knows that I am not a racist. It was a joke. I have friends who are black. Besides, I only sent it to a few people -– mostly people I didn’t think would be upset by it."
However, another former California GOP bigwig says this is the third time recently that Davenport has been involved in a highly controversial matter revolving around race. Former Chairman of the California Republican Party Michael Schroder recalls that when another racist image was emailed in 2009 of the White House sitting behind a field of watermelons, Davenport defended Los Alamitos Mayor Dean Grose who sent out the email with the message "No Easter egg hunt his year."Regardless, Grose stepped down.
Similarly, when Newport City Councilman Richard Nichols voted against installing grass near the ocean because it would "attract Mexicans", Davenport backed the councilman, Schroder told KCAL.

Don't make me get real with you!
