Nicki Minaj & Ricky Martin get GLAM for a cause!!!
Nicki Minaj and Ricky Martin are getting all “glammed” up, thanks to MAC cosmetics. The two stars have been tapped as the makeup company’s newest spokespeople for its 2012 Viva Glam campaign.
Minaj and Martin will be photographed by famed photog David LaChapelle in Miami. The new campaign is set to launch February 2012.
Nicki Minaj tweeted:
“Viva Glam Photo Shoot. Ur gonna GAG!!!!! Can’t wait for my barbz & ken barbz to wear this new shade of lipstick! Wait til u see it! Sickening!!!!”
Traditionally, MAC creates a special Viva Glam collection to raise money for the MAC AIDS Fund. One hundred percent of the sales are donated to support the fight against HIV/AIDS.
To date, the fund has raised $224 million exclusively through the sale of its Viva Glam products. Lady Gaga, Fergie, Lil Kim, Missy Elliott, Eve, Mary J. Blige and Christina Aguilera are among the former spokesmodels for the cosmetics group.
Monica DROPS Lil' Kim FROM NEW SINGLE!??!!
Well, I posted Monica's new single 'Anything (To Find You)' feat. Rick Ross & Lil' Kim. I liked the song, but I was just curious as to why they went with Kim for a verse and not say a more current rapper. Well, apparently some people have been thinking the same thing. But news just came that Lil'Kim has been axed from the project! But the reason may not be what you think.
If you have heard the song, you may have heard a short verse from Kim. Kim says it was part of 16 bars that was shortened to make room for Ricky Rozay. But as of today, Kim is no longer on the track at all. I found out the real reason for the axing.
Apparently there is an issue with The Notorious B.I.G's estate! Portions of Kim's verse contains interpolations of work from Christopher Wallace. Biggie's mother has the final say on whether the label can get clearance for the use of the verse, and Voletta Wallace revoked the right to the clearance!
So apparently all is not well between Kim & Ms. Wallace for her not to grant permission. So as one more dominoe falls, if Ms. Wallace says 'no', then the label can't release the song as is, so TeamMonica has no choice but to either scrap the song completely or scrap the verse. Seems like a no-brainer to me as to what path they would take. I mean, personally the verse wasn't that great to fight over ANYWAYS! Just saying...
I've heard Kim rap better is allI am saying.
Addressing the issue on Twitter, Monica explained:
"I am just finding out what has happened to my single and myself & Missy are beyond hurt that @LilKim was removed. She’s our friend, a legend & @LilKim will get the respect she deserves at all cost. The clearance was revoked & I’m fighting to get it reinstated by the Biggie Estate.
I am as thorough as they come and I LOVE @LilKim bottom line is Ms Wallace has the final say and she said No. If we put it out we get SUED."
So there u have it! Straight from the source! Don't you just love Twitter!? It is a GREAT sounding board to get matters out in the open, right?

The Wonderful World of MISSY!
Hip-Hop pioneer, trendsetter, and mega-producer Missy Elliot has been in the news a lot lately, and its not for her music.
People Magazine revealed recently that Missy Elliott had been battling with Graves’ Disease, an autoimmune disease that leads to overactivity of the thyroid. Rumors began swirling around that the innovative artist was ill and that the disease has strickened her and her fans and people that were not 'in the know' began to worry about the star. 'Is she okay?', 'Will this disease stop the music?', 'Where is Missy?' The artists addressed the rumors:
“I was diagnosed with Graves’ Disease about three years ago, but it really hasn’t slowed me down at all. I rocked my performance on VH1 Hip Hop Honors tribute to Timbaland last year. I’ve written and produced a bunch of Grammy-nominated, #1 hits for artists like Keyshia Cole, Monica, and Jazmine Sullivan. I toured the U.K., Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. And on top of all that, I’m working on my new album. I feel great. Under my doctor’s supervision, I’ve been off medication for about a year and I’m completely managing the condition through diet and exercise.”
So Missy is still in the game and knowing her, she is preparing to change it in a BIG WAY as only Missy can! We look forward to new material from SUPA DUPA FLY Missy 'Misdemeanor' Elliot. Until she graces us with the new project, let's revisit some of her BEST, cutting edge visuals!

LUSH LIFE! The Imagery of BIG Budget Music Videos.
I was just thinking back to when the MUSIC VIDEO was the means to get to a BROADER audience. There once was a time when artists were original and produced lush, colorful, captivating visuals to accompany their work. Big-budget videos are a thing of the past unless you are a HUGE, international star. Artists and labels are going the cheaper, easier route these days, with the changing economy and record sales declining. Here are some of the lush videos I like and deserve a look! Innovative, colorful, and lush--eyecandy in a whole different way.

Throwback Videos:90's R&B females, Gina Thompson & Mona Lisa!

Again, we got to give it up to the 90's! There was GREAT MUSIC popping up left and right then.
Remember Gina Thompson. She was another hitmaker that stemmed from Missy Elliot's camp.
Nobody Does It Better was Gina Thompson's first album. Released in 1996, it featured production by Missy Elliott and Diddy, and featured appearances by Elliott, Diddy, and Craig Mack, among others.[1] Her first single from the album, "The Things That You Do", was a success, peaking at number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, and number 12 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. The album itself peaked at number 36 on The Billboard 200 album chart, and was certified Platinum by the RIAA in 1998.

mona lisa
Remember teen R&B diva Mona Lisa. Some may know her best by another name. Kimberly Ledbetter, known by her professional stage name, Mona Lisa, (born November 20, 1979) is a five-time Grammy-nominated American pop and R&B singer-songwriter, actress, model and record producer. She is best known for her debut single "Can't Be Wasting My Time" featuring the Hip-Hop group Lost Boyz, which was featured on the "Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood" soundtrack as well as her debut album 11-20-79.

'Where my girls at?" 702
Back in the 90's 3-member girl groups were all over the place! 702, named after the area code for Las Vegas, where they are from was one of the hottest acts out, with hits like 'Steelo', and 'Where My girls at'. The group briefly disbanded, then reunited and disbanded again for good in 2009. We can't bring the girls back together, but we can go back to a time when they were. PEEP the THROWBACK VIDS:
