Soraya and Alia: two elegant vibrators from LELO

If you can afford a luxury item for yourself or for a woman you love, one of LELO's elegant, uniquely shaped intimate massagers (as LELO refers to them) is a Valentine's Day gift that's sure to please, and I mean that in every sense of the word. They're smooth and beautiful, made of high-grade silicone, rechargeable, quiet, and waterproof. And did I say beautiful?

The Soraya  is designed to give clitoral stimulation with the "bump" section while you insert the elongated part for vaginal stimulation. The hole in the widest part is for holding -- you slip a thumb or a finger or two in the hole, and it's easy to hold and manipulate with no need for gripping.

The goal is the same as a "rabbit" vibrator, but this dual-action work of art is so far from "rabbit" looking that it's difficult to include it in the same class of vibrators.  Each pleasure point has its own motor, so you can adjust how much and what kind (8 modes!) of vibration you want. Most modes rumble or twitch from one section to the other, though you can get steady vibration in either or both  and even turn off one motor if you prefer.

As much as I wanted to love the elegant Soraya, I had trouble trying to make the clitoral bump land where I wanted it when the long part was inside. Although the bump is flexible, I couldn't position it comfortably without the innie changing its position and becoming less stimulating or downright unpleasant. For example, if I tried to rest the bump along my clitoris and follow my natural contour while inserting the long part, it went too deep and too far forward. If the innie was comfortable, the bump just grazed the clitoris if I bent it in, and that wasn't conducive to pleasure, either.

This isn't a criticism of the Soraya really -- it's a statement about how we're all built in different shapes and sizes, and that applies to our genitals as well as the rest of our bodies. Unless a fully adjustable vibrator comes along (I wish!), sizing and contouring them will be hit-or-miss. From other reviews I've read of the Soraya, most women don't have this issue and find the hot balance easily and eagerly.

My fit issue with the Soraya made me even more eager to try the  Alia, a clitoral stimulator with a unique shape: oval, with holding hole in the middle.

There's no one "right" way to use it -- experiment. You might want to lay it flat against your vulva, or hold it perpendicular if you prefer direct rather than diffused stimulation.

This vibrator has 6 modes from the control buttons that, while practically hidden to the eye, are easy to locate by feel. If you want to share the experience with a lover, the Alia is couple-friendly.

I really enjoyed the shape of the Alia and the ease if use. But it was just a tad too mild for perfection. It's strong -- plenty strong for most women -- just not super-wow strong as I prefer.

Thank you, LELO, for sending me these two gorgeous products for review.

Sex Toys: 2010 Holiday Recommendations

As a sex toy reviewer, I'd say it's been a great year! Here are a few of my recommendations, with links to my original reviews. From there, you'll find links to retailers I endorse.

Most of my recommendations are new toys in 2010, but not all of them. Just in case you haven't been following this blog religiously for the past four years, I don't want you to miss some all-time favorites that might be new to you, so I've included a few of them, too.

Realize that all the toys I recommend get high marks from a senior perspective: they're strong (most are really strong!) to compensate for our slowing arousal pattern, reliable, comfortable to use (even for athritic wrists), orgasm-inducing effective--and they don't balk at long use times. Bonus points when the controls are easy to figure out without reading glasses.

I only recommend high quality toys, made of body-friendly materials and designed to last. They won't overheat or turn themselves off if we need to keep them running for a while. Because of the standards of design, function, and materials, these aren't cheap. They're like us -- high quality, durable, and ready for pleasure.

Jimmyjane Form 3: Put your finger into the indentation of this sweet vibrator and voila! You get a softly cushioned, intensely vibrating finger.

LELO Siri:  A clitoral massager that curves over your clitoris and labia with delicious results.

LELO Gigi: I reviewed this G-spot/vaginal vibrator in 2009, and despite the many newer toys I've received, I find myself reaching for this one frequently, pairing it with various clitoral stimulators. I like the slender shape and the design of the G-spotting tip really does aim perfectly.

LELO Lily: Another 2009 favorite, smaller than the Siri, yet still strong. Try this during partner sex -- it's small enough that it won't get in the way, and it will intensify your pleasure.

Vibratex Mystic Wand: I was so surprised by the strength of this vibrator! I often find myself reaching for it instead of the Hitachi Magic Wand when I need a super-strong assist. It's almost as strong as the Hitachi, which seems impossible because it's powered by just 4 AA batteries, and there's no cord to get in the way and no need for an electrical outlet.

Petite Couture Enchanted: Cute enough to make you laugh, but potent enough to make you squirm, this vaginal vibrator is shaped just right to hit the right spots and stay in place almost hands-free. I love the squishiness of this toy, enjoyable--even before its designated use--to just hold and squeeze.

Snow Bunny: I tried rabbit after rabbit, convinced I couldn't find one to fit me, and  then I found the Snow Bunny!

Eroscillator: Long before I started reviewing sex toys, I discovered the Eroscillator and used it for more than a decade. It's great between bodies for partner sex, because the wand is slim enough that it doesn't get in the way. Be sure to try the "marshmallow" attachment -- my favorite!

My list here is far from comprehensive. Please click here for all my sex toy reviews and commentary -- keep scrolling down and click "older posts" when you get to the bottom, because there are many reviews, and one that was just okay for me might be the one you've been wishing for.

In addition, I have a collection of toys I received in 2010 that I haven't yet reviewed. Look for an update as I discover new ones I have to tell you about.

Your comments are welcome! (But please don't try to use my blog to send my readers to other retailers than the ones I recommend. Those comments never see the light of day.)

Enjoy!

SIRI: New pleasure object from LELO

LELO pleasure objects are elegant and beautifully designed for both appearance and function. LELO doesn't come out with a new sex toy frequently, only when they have a new idea or improvement that will really make a difference. Ta da -- announcing the Siri!

The Siri is the new clitoral massager from LELO, and I love it! It curves deliciously to fit over the clitoris and labia with velvety silicone and fits more comfortably in the hand than an ergonomic mouse.

The best part: This sexy sweetheart is strong. They must have been thinking about us older women when they designed it. The vibrations are lower-pitched than most toys, giving deep, throbbing or thrumming sensations.

I usually ignore the vibrational patterns in sex toys, going straight to the strongest, steadiest rhythm -- but with the SIRI, I found myself enjoying one of the intermittently patterns the most. I don't know how to describe it, except that it reminded me of a lover's expert fingers circling the clitoris and varying pressure.

The Siri is quiet, very quiet. It's small enough and appropriately shaped to fit over the clitoris during partner sex as well as solo. It is rechargeable, so you'll have no batteries or wires to contend with during use, and two hours of charging will keep it going for four hours. It comes with a satiny travel bag and can be locked so it can't turn on accidentally during travel -- and you will want to travel with it!

If you enjoy internal as well as external stimulation, pair the Siri with LELO's Gigi for an extraordinary experience!

I have only one criticism -- the four controls which determine pattern and intensity are almost impossible to decode while in use -- I had to wear my reading glasses and hold the SIRI close to my face to see which was which, and although they have raised symbols, they all feel the same. The trick is to memorize their location before starting.

Update: I was asked to compare the Siri and the smaller Lily. This photo shows the size difference. The Siri's vibrations are much stronger and lower-pitched than the Lily's. They're both wonderful -- depends on your preference.

See my other LELO pleasure object reviews here. Thank you, LELO, for sending me the Siri to review!

LELO Mona: Elegant Instrument of Pleasure!

LELO sex toys are beautifully made, both functional and artistic in design, and absolutely made for pleasure. The LELO Mona  is curvy, sleek and sexy, and practically silent. Thank you, Tabu Toys, provider of sex toys, for sending me the beautiful and elegant LELO Mona for review.

The Mona can be used as either a clitoral vibrator or a G-spot seeking insertable vibrator. For clitoral stimulation, either touch the tip to your sweet spot, or position the whole curve over your vulva--the vibrations seem to make the whole vulva sing, with of course a special focus on the clitoris. I didn't find the vibrations quite strong enough to take me to the finish line this way, but I enjoyed it as a most pleasurable warmup.

The Mona shines -- or should I say glows? -- as an insertable vibrator. It has an unusual shape: a tapered tip that bulges to about 1.5" in diameter, then thins considerably. Besides being pretty, that shape let's you insert it, then let go and use it hands-free (or practically -- you may need to touch it lightly to keep it from turning). Once inserted, it's not likely to pop out at inopportune moments. If you prefer thrusting, the shape gives surprising sensations--its curvy bits are not at all penile, which you might like or not. It feels really good, just not like a penis, if that's your shape of choice.

It's rechargeable, which means you plug it in for a while to charge the toy, then it will go unassisted for hours. No cords or batteries to fuss with while you're concentrating on your sensations.

For those of us older folks with arthritis, the ergonomic design makes it easy to hold comfortably, no gripping, no weird angles. The only problem is that it's easy to accidentally press a control button, changing mode or intensity.

The Mona is a mid-sized vibrator, larger than my favorite LELO toy, the Gigi. Here they are side by side for comparison.

Yes, the Mona is expensive. It's a luxury toy: beautifully designed, easy to hold and a pleasure to use, made of medical-grade materials, velvety smooth, quiet, with six modes of stimulation and a variety of intensities. If you can afford to give yourself a special gift of pleasure, go fot it. Or direct a generous friend to this review!

Lelo Lily pleasure object review

I had seen photos of the Lelo Lily, but until TabuToys adult toy shop sent me the Lelo Lily Dark Plum Clitoral Massager, I had no idea that it had these fabulous attributes:

1. It's tiny. Really tiny! My hands are small, but look how easily the Lily fits in my palm. This is a good thing -- it focuses precisely on that sweet spot and its erogenous, surrounding area.

2. The curved design fits so nicely that it stays put, even hands free!

As older women, we know that a long arousal time is essential. This quiet, silky-smooth, pleasure-inducing toy can start arousing you in advance, whether you're anticipating partner or solo sex. Just "wear" it as you go about your business, reading your email, updating your Facebook page, or blogging (whoops, busted!), for example. By the time you put aside distractions and settle into the main event, you're well on your way.

Lily's vibrations are adjustable in intensity and rhythm, but I wish it had a stronger, super-extreme setting. (I say that about every toy.) A small peeve is that the controls are tricky -- play with them in advance with the manual open and your reading glasses on until you get the hang of it.

The Lily is conveniently rechargeable -- no batteries, and no plugging it in during use. Lelo claims to hold a charge through up to seven hours of use -- no worries about it running down, even if you're a slow arouser.

Because of Lily's size and shape, you can use it for clitoral stimulation at the same time that you, a partner, or another toy pleasures you with vaginal penetration, if that's what you like. Very versatile!

LELO's GIGI: slim, smooth, sensual

Sex-toy designers are catching on to the notion that sexual enhancement products (okay, vibrators) that work best for women's anatomy might not be in the shape of a penis (or dolphin, rabbit, and so on) but rather a design that actually fits the way we're shaped and makes contact with our hot spots most effectively. As we age, our bed buddy also needs to be pleasant to hold for an extended time without inflaming arthritic wrists or burning out before we do.

I've had the pleasure of testing the lovely GIGI "sensual pleasure object" from LELO. The rechargeable GIGI specializes in G-spot stimulation, and it's also dandy for clitoral stimulation. (If you like both, just alternate placement!) Choose from five intensities/modes, or vary as your arousal increases. I would have liked just one more, extremely intense setting, but for the size, it's amazing.

It's also quiet, in case the grandkids are in the next room. The part that does its magic is available in rose (pictured, though it's not as shocking a color as my point-and-shoot camera thinks), turquoise, or "petal pink" to match the decor or make it easy to find in the toybox. A lovely product!

As you'll see from other recent sex-toy reviews, we now have a swell selection to choose from or alternate, if you like variety. Thank you, designers, and enjoy, dear readers!
